Girls volleyball: Leyden wins IMSA invite

Leyden went 4-1 at the Illinois Math and Science Academy Invite and won the championship with a 25-18, 25-15 victory over Newark.

The Eagles also defeated Westmont and Joliet Central with their only loss coming in two sets to McHenry.

Leyden came back and defeated McHenry 20-25, 26-24, 25-22 in the semifianls.

Leading the way in the five matches were senior setter Autumn McGee (19 kills, 12 aces) senior middle hitter Jennifer Parker (12 kills), senior middle hitter Natalie Payne (15 kills, 4 aces), senior libero Kamila Zieba (60 digs, 4 aces), senior right side Camryn McGee (15 kills) and sophomore outside hitter Destiny Corral (11 kills).

Christian Liberty took seventh place with a 25-22, 25-16 win over Serena.

Lake Forest Invite: Hoffman Estates went 1-4 with its win coming over Chicago Goode High School.

For the five matches, Hoffman (2-23) was led on attack by Monraia Wilson (8 kills) and Natalie Pethes (6 kills) while Callie Meese was 33-33 serving with 6 aces and Kathleen Gueco was 22-of-27 with 5 aces.

Gueco (15 assists) and Meese (11) handled the setting chores. Ashley Poland made 49 passes and collected 67 digs. Patricia Wadas had 2 blocks.
