Woodlands Academy holds Cabaret concert Oct. 13

The Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart Music Department will present its Cabaret fall concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. This annual event, held in the cafeteria at the all-girls college-prep high school, is open to the public for free as a means of spotlighting this year's Fine Arts students.

Woodlands Academy is at 760 E. Westleigh Road in Lake Forest.

Choral groups Kaleidoscope, JV-Kaleidoscope (A Choir'd Taste), the Performing Arts chorus and Microscope will perform numbers that are lighthearted in nature. Selections include the '60s hit "Bye, Bye Love," "Little Shop of Horrors" from the musical of the same name, and "A Tribute to Judy Garland" medley performed by all participating groups.

The student-led Microscope, under the direction of Shiyu Wang, a senior from China, will perform selections including Billy Joel's "The Longest Time" and Gershwin's "Love Is Here to Stay."

Student accompanists this year are junior Shiyu Wang, senior Haiqing Gong and freshman Yi Lu from China; and senior Caylee Hamilton from Wadsworth.

The concert is under the direction of Elizabeth Kurowski, director of choral music at Woodlands Academy, and Lauren Moldenhauer, director of instrumental music.
