Boys soccer: Jacobs, Dundee-Crown, Huntley win FVC contests
Jacobs 3, Cary-Grove 0: The Golden Eagles (10-3-3, 4-0) upped their winning streak to 7 and now find themselves atop the Fox Valley Conference after this win over the Trojans and McHenry's loss to Dundee-Crown. Pat Murphy knocked 1 goal and 1 assist while Colin Walsh scored once. Noah Melick had 1 assist and keeper Chris Cranston's 3 saves helped him earn a shutout.
Dundee-Crown 1, McHenry 0 (PKs): Keeper Luis Cruz made 2 monster saves in the shootout to help preserve an FVC win for the Chargers (10-7, 5-1) over the Warriors, one of the top teams in the state. Coming up with converted PKs were Julian Ajroja, Gerardo Estrada, Jeremy Jareckyj and Brandon Candia, as D-C edged McHenry 4-1 in the shootout.
Huntley 2, Hampshire 1: The Red Raiders (11-4-1, 3-1) were down a man in the second half but were saved by Zach Whitaker's heroics to down the Whip-Purs late in FVC action. Zach Whitaker's second goal came in the final 45 seconds to get the win while Juan Collazo and Aaron Ruffner added assists. Michael Parks made 5 saves in goal against Hampshire (9-5-2, 2-3), who watched Jose Cruz sink 1 goal. TJ Walker had 1 assist and goalie Jason Polletta garnered 9 saves.
St. Edward 2, Ridgewood 1: AJ Franklin's goal midway through the second half earned the Green Wave (12-3, 5-0) a Metro Suburban win. Franklin also assisted on Will Gaston goal while Zach Olenek added 1 assist. Keeper Evan Sajtar had 6 saves for the Wave.
ACC 4, Glenbard South 2: The Chargers rallied from a 1-0 deficit at the half with 4 second half goals for a big Metro Suburban win. Kyle Czerak, Brennan Hare and George Yanez led ACC (11-3-2, 2-1-1) with 1 goal and 1 assist each while Brett Czerak added a big third goal to put the Chargers up for good. Juan Pablo Alanis added an assist and Jeffery Remlinger made 13 saves in net.
Kaneland 4, Morris 1: Angel Escontrias mustered up 2 goals and 1 assist in a win for the Knights (6-7-1, 3-1-1) in NI Big 12 East Division action. John McCaffery and Tucker Jahns added goals while Dylan Bock, Brian Bartholomew and Javier Correa added assists.
CL South 3, CL Central 0: Andrew Grabowski scored 1 goal and 1 assist while his brother Brad scored once in a Fox Valley Conference win for the Gators (10-6-1, 2-2). Ricky Christante also added a goal while Nikolas Getzinger dished 2 assists. Brandon Gorka needed 7 saves for the shutout.
Marmion 4, St. Joseph 2: The Cadets (3-11-1) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to get the win in Chicago Catholic League action. Sean Miller's hat trick led the way while Nick Grant had 1 goal and 2 assists. Quinn Gratz and Ricky Ruiz added assists and both Brant Chisea (2 saves) and Danny Galush (2 saves) split time in net.
Harvest Christian 6, Hiawatha 0: The Lions earned a Northeastern Athletic win behind a hat trick from Raphael DeSouza (1 assist). Cesar Velazquez (1 assist), Antonio Nevarez and Owne Pisha also scored goals. Zach Floyd had 2 assists and Patrick D'Alessandro had 1 and Matt Baron (1 assist) earned a shutout in net with 2 saves.
