Volunteers Invited to Assist with Fall Events at the Naperville Park District

The Naperville Park District invites interested individuals or groups to assist with upcoming fall events and projects for the community.

Volunteer opportunities range from one-day event support, such as helping with Halloween Happening, to longer-term positions or projects, such as volunteering at the front desk at Knoch Knolls Nature Center or providing office help for Magical Starlight Theatre. The Park District also invites participation in the ongoing Adopt-A-Park program, in which groups can help maintain a park or a smaller area, such as a trail or field, for a one- or two-year period of time.

Prospective volunteers may view a list of current volunteer projects and events, a volunteer application, training materials and contact information at www.napervilleparks.org/volunteer-with-the-naperville-park-district.

"Our largest volunteer event of the year is Halloween Happening, set for Sunday, October 30," said Volunteer Coordinator Lynnette Hoole. "This is especially fun for middle school and high school students, who can dress in costume and enjoy running games and passing out candy to the younger children who attend." Interested individuals or group leaders may contact Lynnette at lhoole@napervilleparks.org to learn more.

Other upcoming fall events and projects needing volunteers include the following:

• Playground reopening celebration at Walnut Ridge Park - October 4

• Ghost Stories in the Park…in the Dark at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion - October 7-9

• Scenery painting at Seager Park - October 8

• Creepy Critters Day at Knoch Knolls Nature Center - October 10

• Fall gleaning at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots - October 11

• Royal Ball at Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center - November 11-12

Looking ahead to the holiday season, those interested in assisting at Santa House and other holiday events are asked to view a training webinar that will be available on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. To register for the webinar or to learn more about volunteer opportunities, email Lynnette Hoole at lhoole@napervilleparks.org.

Volunteers serve generously each year, helping the Park District to fulfill its mission to enrich the quality of life for our community. In 2015, the District was served by more than 2,700 volunteers who gave 94,016 hours of their time, which translates to a value of $2,325,955.
