Sounders win at Galaxy to boost playoff chances

CARSON, California (AP) - Seattle won at Los Angeles for the first time in 12 attempts, beating the Galaxy 4-2 on Sunday to boost the Sounders' playoff chances while denting L.A.'s hopes of topping Major League Soccer's Western Conference.

Seattle's Jordan Morris scored two goals to take his tally to 12 in his rookie season.

The Sounders won their first game at Los Angeles since 2009 to move within three points of the last playoff berth in the Western Conference with three games left in the regular season.

Seattle (11-13-5) remained in seventh place, three points behind rival Portland for the final playoff spot. Los Angeles (11-5-15) lost its first home game of the season and its first against the Sounders since 2009.

Morris gave the Sounders a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute when he outraced a defender down the right sideline and curled a shot with the outside of his right foot on a breakaway. In the 73rd, he controlled a rebound and calmly scored with his left foot.

Robbie Keane opened the scoring in the 20th minute for Los Angeles when he headed home Sebastian Lletget's chipped cross and Keane also converted a penalty in the 85th but could not prevent the Galaxy suffering their first home loss this season.

Seattle tied it in the 35th on Jelle Van Damme's own goal. Osvaldo Alonso hammered a shot from distance in the 78th for a 4-1 lead.

In the day's other game, Ola Kamara scored both goals as Columbus beat New England 2-0 to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Columbus is second to last in the Eastern Conference, but only five points off the final playoff spot and now four points behind New England.

In the 42nd minute, Kamara slid a shot through the legs of a defender and past the diving goalkeeper. Kamara slotted home a penalty in the 84th.
