North Chicago woman killed when car strikes tree

A 24-year-old North Chicago woman was killed early Sunday when her car veered off the road in Wadsworth and struck a tree, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff's police said the woman, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of family, was driving a 2004 Nissan Altima northbound on Green Bay Road at about 1:56 a.m. when the crash occurred.

Police said the car went off the west side of the road near Taylor Lane and struck a tree. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where she was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
