Richmond holds on to defeat Colgate 38-31

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Kyle Lauletta threw four touchdowns and Brian Brown set a new program record for career receiving yards as Richmond beat Colgate 38-31 on Saturday.

Lauletta was 23 of 34 for 307 yards passing for the Spiders (3-1). Brown had 148 yards and two touchdowns, which gave him 3,178 lifetime receiving yards, breaking Trey Gray's school record of 3,101 yards. Xavier Goodall ran for 127 yards and a score.

After helping the Spiders build a 31-17 third-quarter lead, Lauletta connected with Brown for a 66-yard score and a 38-17 advantage with 12:57 left to play. But Colgate's Abu Daramy returned the ensuing kickoff 84 yards and two plays later, quarterback Jake Melville took it in to make it 38-24 with 12:05 to go. The Raiders (1-2) then capitalized on a fumble recovery to pull to 38-31 with 3:34 left.

Tafon Mainsah ended Colgate's hopes on a Melville interception with 49 seconds to play.
