Campton Township Prairie Fest celebrates rural life

Campton Township hosted its annual Prairie Fest Saturday at the historic Corron Farm.

The event featured tours of the 1850s brick Corron home; tractor-pulled wagon tours of the savanna, wetlands, and prairie; square dancing demonstrations; artifact displays from Elgin Public Museum; a children's corner; refreshments; and door prizes. There also was a visit by members of the 1st Brigade Illinois Volunteers.

The Corron Farm Preservation Society held a 50-50 raffle to support the rehabilitation of the dairy barn. And society members unveiled a horse-drawn carriage from the late 1800s that was recently rehabbed. The carriage had been in the loft of the dairy barn for more than 50 years.
