Covered bridge design wins Indiana license plate vote

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana's next state license plate features a red covered bridge over a blue stream, under a blue sky and surrounded by greenery.

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced Thursday that design was favoring by 54 percent of the public during voting over a month ending this month. It says more than 331,000 people voted online, at the state fair or BMV self-service terminals.

The covered bridge plates will be used beginning in January as older plates are replaced.

It won out over two white plates with blue numbering and letters, one with the slogan "The Hoosier State" at the bottom and the other with the slogan "Crossroads of America" in a yellow ribbon at the bottom.

The designs were produced by Fort Wayne license plate manufacturer Intellectual Technology Inc.
