American Legion seeking donations to help pay for new siding

The Arlington Heights American Legion Post 208 has been welcoming veterans from all branches of our armed forces since its charter in September of 1924. Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel who have served, and those who are still serving our country. In addition, we welcome the families of our veterans and members of our community.

Our Legion family continues to be active by marching annually in the Memorial Day and Fourth of July Parades, hosting the Great Lakes Naval Recruits for Thanksgiving, visiting local schools and homebound veterans on Veteran's Day, sponsoring children of veterans for American Legion scholarships, and supporting the many programs of the American Legion. Our members continually strive to welcome our members, family, friends, and community neighbors to our Post to keep Americanism and patriotism alive. Additionally, our Color Guard will regularly honor a deceased local veteran at a wake where they offer a brief service and present a Bible to the veteran's family.

Our Legion family still meets in the original post "home" located in Arlington Heights,. We have expanded the building over the 92 years of our charter's existence to enable us to continue serving our veterans and community but our building has become "tired".

After years of chasing paint by our aging veterans to keep the exterior of our building a welcoming sight to our members, friends, neighbors, and guests, it's time to think long-term and have the building sided. So as to not burden our finances, the Legion is reaching out to its members, family, friends, and the community asking for financial help to raise the funds needed to have siding installed on the building. Quotes for this project were received and reviewed and it is our hope that this project will begin within the next two months by a local contractor who is proud to be able to serve the American Legion. We are excited knowing our building will have a "facelift" to welcome our members, friends, and guests.

We are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organization so all donations are 100% federal income tax deductible. (If you are donating from outside of Illinois, please check your local and state regulations for any differences in your local or state tax liability.) All fund raised will go directly to our siding project.
