Local playwright works with Buffalo Grove High School on fall play

A local playwright recently worked alongside Buffalo Grove High School students performing in his play this fall.

Scott Shallenbarger stopped by Buffalo Grove High School to provide insight on the story and presentation of "On Stars Not Falling." Shallenbarger is a Northwestern University alumnus and an award-winning educator at Highland Park High School, where he is also the theater director and drama teacher.

The full-length play tells the story of college friends who drop out of school following a shared, traumatic experience. Five months later, they gather for a birthday party on the rooftop of a Chicago three-flat. An unexpected guest who transforms their lives forever interrupts the celebration. The 90-minute play has enjoyed productions in professional, college and high school theaters and has often been called "life-changing."

"This play teaches the crucial lesson of how important it is to embrace your real self and how powerful it can be when we love more than we fear," said Director Elizabeth Wells.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, through Saturday, Sept. 24. Tickets are $5 at the door. Online tickets include a service charge and may be purchased at bghs.d214.org/fine_arts. For information, call (847) 718-4071.
