Girls cross country: More improvement for Schaumburg's Marasco

Schaumburg's Maddie Marasco is gaining momentum.

Last year, Marasco finished 16th in Class 3A, and the Saxons junior has shown no signs of slowing down this season.

Marasco took sixth in a quality field at the Richard Spring Invitational in Peoria, traveling the state course in 17:48.2.

Glenbard West freshman Katelynne Hart (17:06.2) and junior Lindsay Payne (17:08.9) went 1-2 in powering the Hilltoppers to a first-place team finish with 73 points.

Wheaton Warrenville South followed in second place with 160 points, with Palatine (215) edging Geneva (218) for third place. Neuqua Valley (223 points) rounded out the top five.

Senior Dana Lloyd (18:13) and sophomore Liz Lechowicz (18:22.3) powered the Pirates in 15th and 21st place.

Senior Izzeh Stankiewicz (59th place), junior Laura Simons (65th place) and senior Anna Buckstaff (66th place) also contributed in pushing Palatine's attack.

Hersey was also on the move. Senior Sarah Harden (17:58.2) pulled the Huskies to a nice eighth-place finish by taking 11th place individually, with senior Hailey Bowes (31st place) and sophomore Teagan Beckley (33rd place) also figuring in the Huskies' attack.

Conant senior Sydney Davis (18:18.2) had a solid race in securing 16th place for the Cougars.

Junior Lauren Kubinski (18:32.7) finished in 31st place for Schaumburg.

Libertyville Invitational: Prospect junior Brooke Wilson rolled to another victory at the Libertyville Invitational on Saturday at Adler Park.

The Knights senior crossed the tape in 18:44.05 in helping propel Prospect to second-place team finish with 43 points. Other top finishes for the Knights came from sophomore Marissa Valentini (19:45.03, fifth) and sophomore Jenna Baltes (19:53.86, eighth), with senior Molly Leeney (13th place) and sophomore Drew Cori (16th ) also contributing.

Lockport put five runners in the top 15 in securing the team title with 33 points.

Junior Yailene Leon took 27th place for Wheeling.
