Beach Boy Mike Love bringing memoir to Naperville

Mike Love, a founding member of The Beach Boys, will surf into Naperville next month to sign his memoir, "Good Vibrations, My Life As A Beach Boy."

Love is scheduled to appear at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at Anderson's Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave., in downtown Naperville. Tickets are available with the purchase of the book at Anderson's and are necessary to participate. Details are available by calling (630) 355-2665 or visiting www.andersonsbookshop.com.

The book's release is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of The Beach Boys hit "Good Vibrations."

Love has spent 55 years as the group's lead singer and one of its principal lyricists. His book traces his rise from a sheet-metal apprentice to the frontman for one of America's most successful rock bands.

In the book, Love describes the stories behind his lyrics for pop classics such as "Good Vibrations," "California Girls," "Surfin' USA," and "Kokomo," while providing portraits of the lives of his three cousins, Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson who all played key roles in the group's success.

As a member of The Beach Boys, Love is a member of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the Vocal Group Hall of Fame; and has received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

He cowrote the book with James S. Hirsch, a journalist and New York Times best-selling author whose books include biographies of Willie Mays and Rubin "Hurricane" Carter and examinations of military issues, the health care system and global philanthropy.
