Suburban ceremonies mark 9/11 anniversary

Memorial ceremonies were held throughout the suburbs yesterday in honor of those who were killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks 15 years ago. An observance at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial included honor guards from the Palatine police and fire departments, a wreath placed at the memorial and a ceremonial bell ringing. In Naperville, visitors gathered along the Riverwalk near the Cmdr. Dan Shanower/Sept. 11 memorial for a ceremony. For more photos from observances across the suburbs and the country, click here.

Naperville cops hunting for two armed robbers

Naperville police are searching for two armed robbers who stole cellphones and other items yesterday afternoon from a store on the 2800 block of South Route 59. Police said the man and woman entered the business around 2:05 p.m. and displayed a weapon. No one was injured. Full story.

Civic leaders, scholars and political heavyweights are mourning the death of Paul Michael Green, frequent Daily Herald columnist, professor of public administration and longtime expert on the political scene in Chicago and across the state. One man injured in Island Lake motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was critically injured Sunday afternoon in a crash in Island Lake, fire officials said. Two men were involved in the accident, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Roberts Road between Porten and Lamphere roads, said Battalion Chief Mark Dierker of the Wauconda Fire District. The motorcyclists were traveling together on separate bikes, he said. Full story.
