Boys soccer: Burlington Central wins PepsiCo opener

Jack Shramme's first half goal was all Burlington Central's boys soccer team needed Saturday to earn a 1-0 win over UNO Charter School of Chicago in the opening round of the PepsiCo Showdown at Stuart Sports Complex in Aurora.

Victor Rodriguez assisted on the goal for the Rockets (3-3-3), who got a combined 7 saves in goal from David Murphy and Ryan Parson to preserve the shutout.

East Aurora 4, Wheaton North 2: Sergio Simental, Adrian Hernandez, Bryan Torres and Ricardo Sanchez scored goals for the Tomcats (3-5) in a PepsiCo win. Salvador Gonzalez had 5 saves in goal for East Aurora.

CL South 4, Ridgewood 1: Also at the PepsiCo, Andrew Grabowski scored twice while Joel Bennett and Nikolas Getzinger each had single goals to lead the Gators (6-2-1) to the win. Brandon Gorka and Spencer Traub combined for 5 saves in goal for Crystal Lake South.

Bolingbrook 2, St. Edward 0: The Green Wave (4-2) hung with Bolingbrook but couldn't find the back of the net in this PepsiCo loss. Evan Sajtar had 6 saves in the net for St. Edward.

Westminster Christian 9, Winnebago 2: Will DeHaan had a hat trick and Jacob Guge added 2 goals for Westminster (4-5-1) in this nonconference win. Mason Runkel, Jackson Walle, Emmett Sears and Lee Grasemann added goal for the Warriors, who got 2 saves in goal from Ben Versluys.

St. Charles East 2, Bartlett 1: Andre Thorne had Bartlett's goal in this Upstate Eight crossover loss. Zac Rebac and Jeremy Taylor combined for 8 saves for the Hawks (0-6-1).
