Boys soccer: Lake County roundup

Boys soccer

Grayslake Central 0, Carmel 0: David Young made 11 saves in net for Grayslake Central (4-3-1) in the nonconference match.

"After that rough (loss) against at Warren on Tuesday, we needed to step back and evaluate our effort level," Rams coach Tom Hamilton said. "We came out with focus in practice (Wednesday), and I thought it showed today. We did a nice job of keeping a strong Carmel team under pressure. Of course we'd be even happier with a win, but to come out here and play with quick pressure on defense and quality possession and build up in attack after what we saw two days ago, it shows that these boys have some real character. We'll build on this and continue to push ourselves from here on out."

Crystal Lake South 1, Wauconda 1: After Crystal Lake South's Andrew Grabowski converted a second-half penalty kick, the Bulldogs got the equalizer from Erik Hernandez on an assist from Jorge Morales.

Wauconda keeper Danny McNutt made 13 saves.

Niles West 3, Vernon Hills 0: The Cougars lost the Central Suburban League crossover to fall to 6-3 overall.

Niles West did all of its scoring in the first half.
