Women's volleyball: Harper quickly climbs to No. 1

It didn't take long for the Harper College women's volleyball program to reach the top.

Ranked sixth nationally in the preseason, the Hawks have risen to No. 1 in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings after a recent three-set victory over Triton College.

The unbeaten Hawks (11-0) have earned four wins against teams ranked in either the NJCAA Div. II or III national polls. They've also beaten a total of six Div. II teams, which can offer financial aid to athletes.

The Hawks travel to Rochester, Minn., this weekend to take part in the Rochester Community and Technical College Volleyball Invitational.

The Hawks have already defeated RCTC this season; at the time the Yellow Jackets were ranked No. 2 in the national poll.

In the North Central Community College Conference standings, Harper leads Madison Area Technical College by 1 game. The Hawks' next home game is Sept. 24 against Elgin Community College.
