Elgin Sports Hall of Fame to induct 5 Larkin graduates

The voting membership of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Foundation has elected five inductees into the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame for 2016, and all five are Larkin High School graduates.

The inductees are:

•Corinne (Cohen) Grotenhuis (weightlifting, 1983).

•Vince Harris (baseball, 1985).

•Gregg Hofstetter (track, 1981).

•Kerri (Kerber) McClain (softball, 1991).

•Lauren (Moulton) Marshall (volleyball, 2002).

The annual induction and recognition banquet will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 at The Centre of Elgin. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. with dinner scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by the program.

In addition to the inductees, the foundation will be recognizing 30 scholarship recipients, numerous outstanding achievement recipients, Frank Celarek as the Vic Masi Service Award recipient, and two outstanding teams from Elgin's past - the 1985 St. Edward girls basketball state championship team and the 2010 Westminster Christian Class 1A state championship baseball team.
