One dead in Carpentersville store robbery

Carpentersville police are still investigating a robbery and shooting that left one man dead on Wednesday night.

Police responded to a computer store on the 1600 block of Ravine Lane around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release.

Early reports indicate that multiple thieves broke into the computer store and robbed it. Once they left the store, shots were fired — though it is unclear by whom — and one of the robbers was hit, police said. The other thieves fled. The victims of the robbery did not sustain any significant injuries.

The man who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.

The department is investigating the incident as both a robbery and a homicide and did not have more details to release late Wednesday.
