Girls volleyball: Grayslake North tops Round Lake in 3
Abby Fish slammed 7 kills, Erin McBriarty dished out 12 assists and Taylor Johnston posted 15 digs, as Grayslake North's girls volleyball team topped Round Lake 25-20, 23-25, 25-7 in Northern Lake County Conference action Tuesday.
Grayslake North received 4 kills apiece from Sidney Lovitsch, Sarah Rauch and Jenna Pozezinski. Carissa Popp added 10 assists for the Knights.
Mundelein d. Zion-Benton: McKenzie Theis had 6 kills and 3 blocks, as the Mustangs outlasted the visiting Zee-Bees 25-21, 21-25, 25-23 in their North Suburban Conference opener.
Katherine East and Taylor Heath added 5 and 4 kills, respectively, for Mundelein (6-9). The Mustangs' other contributors included Sidney Brunkow (3 kills, 3 aces), Amanda Bogseth (3 kills, 3 blocks), Faith Krabbe (32 kills, 2 blocks, 9 assists), Mackenzie Linane (13 assists) and Tess Pribyl (3 aces).
Carmel d. Nazareth: Maia Yonke and Erin Taylor had 6 and 5 kills, respectively, as the visiting Corsairs won 25-23, 25-21 in their East Suburban Catholic Conference opener.
Grace Butler added 4 kills, 18 assists and 8 digs for Carmel (8-3). Lauren Nelson (4 kills, 2 blocks), Alyssa Dellert (3 kills), Jolina Moisio (3 aces, 6 digs), Maddie Reuland (2 aces), Eileen Tarcha (11 digs) and Madi Meyer (5 digs) also contributed to the win.
"After a long hot day we were able to maintain our focus and composure in a tough match and persevere," Carmel coach David Pazely said. "We went 0-7 last year in conference, so this was a great moment for the team and the program. Grace Butler did a great job running our offense, and our defense made some great plays to keep us ahead throughout a tight match."
