Veteran ABC 7 anchor Linda Yu to retire in November

Veteran ABC 7 Chicago anchor and broadcaster Linda Yu Tuesday announced plans to retire from the station in November, after 37 years in Chicago television.

Yu has co-anchored the station's top-rated 4 p.m. newscast since she came to ABC 7 in 1984. She has the distinction of being Chicago's first Asian-American broadcast journalist and is the author of a book, "Lessons I Learned in America," a guide to help young Chinese women in the global workplace.

Vice President and News Director Jennifer Graves described Yu as a "trailblazer who opened doors for others ... she set the bar high with her skillful anchoring and unflappable breaking news coverage."

Yu will be succeeded by reporter and anchor Judy Hsu. Tanja Babich has been promoted to anchor the morning news with Terrell Brown beginning Monday, Sept. 12.

In a note to her colleagues, Yu said retiring at Thanksgiving seemed the perfect time, "because I have always felt there is so much to be thankful for."
