New Video Intercom System Starts for Visitors

Beginning September 7, all visitors to Woodland District 50 schools will participate in an additional safety measure put in place for students and staff.

Called Aiphone, the video intercom system will require visitors to push an intercom button when they approach the main door of each school once the official school day begins. A school employee will welcome the visitor and view the person on the video camera before that person is allowed to gain entry to the building. Anyone coming in to the schools will continue to show their identification at the office and wear a visitor badge while in school. The system will also be used at Woodland District 50's transportation office.

"The video intercom system is another tool to enhance security in the schools," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joy Swoboda said.

The video intercom was recommended as part of a security audit done for the District.
