Comfort for Critters breaks records, seeks donations
Comfort for Critters, a Glen Ellyn-based nonprofit group that creates handmade blankets to comfort animals living in animal shelters, has broken its record in blanket shipments and seeks donations of fleece and yarn.
The organization typically ships 600 blankets a month, but in July Comfort for Critters surpassed all its own records and shipped 1,161 blankets at no cost to 34 different shelters in 17 states. Even the cost of shipping was covered.
While pets await adoption, the blankets provide a comfortable bed year-round. When the animals are adopted, their blankets go with them, providing something familiar as they adjust to their "forever family."
Comfort for Critters has delivered more than 37,700 blankets to more than 100 animal shelters since its start in 2007. The group has participating shelters in every state, so new volunteers are able to create blankets for shelters in their own area.
Yarn and fleece donations, new crafters and shipping donations are accepted. For details, visit comfortforcritters.org or email info@ComfortForCritters.org.
