Girls cross country: Vernon Hills runs to county invite title

Vernon Hills' girls cross country team edged Stevenson to win the Lake County invitational at Waukegan Sports Park on Wednesday.

Lake Forest junior Brett Chody (17:44.8) finished first, with Stevenson junior Isabelle Sparreo (17:54.1) taking second. Third-place finisher Emma Milburn (17:57.3) of Lake Forest also broke 18 minutes. Grant sophomore Danielle Osmon (18:09.6) and Lakes freshman Olivia Schmitt (18:10.9) finished fourth and fifth.

Junior Lauren Katz's sixth-place finish (18:23.7) led Vernon Hills, whose 72 points were 2 fewer than runner-up Stevenson. Vernon Hills' top five also included Payton Makowskyj (ninth), sophomore Hannah Ray (18th), freshman Caroline Sear (19th) and sophomore Ryan Schofield (20th).

Stevenson (74), Grant (99), Grayslake Central (100) and Lakes (162) rounded out the top five.

Seniors Megan Girmscheid and Elizabeth finished seventh and eighth, respectively, for Grayslake Central.
