Potash Corp. and Agrium say they are in talks to combine

NEW YORK (AP) - Fertilizer makers Potash Corp. and Agrium say they are in talks to combine into one company.

The Canadian companies gave no financial details about a possible deal and say there's no guarantee that a merger will happen.

Both companies sell fertilizers and other agricultural products around the world. Potash is based in Saskatoon, Canada. Agrium is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.

Shares of Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. soared 13 percent to $18.20 in afternoon trading Tuesday. Agrium Inc. shares rose 7 percent to $95.59.
