Carp-O-Rama at Independence Grove Sept. 10

Carp-O-Rama returns to Lake County Forest Preserve District's Independence Grove near Libertyville on Saturday, Sept. 10. All ages are welcome for the event from 6:30 a.m. to noon in Independence Grove's South Bay only. The fishing competition is a chance to win prizes while you help reduce the overpopulation of nuisance carp in the lake at Independence Grove. A valid Illinois fishing license is required for ages 16 and older. Participants may purchase the licenses at the Independence Grove marina and at many sporting goods stores. Independence Grove, at 16400 W. Buckley Road just east of Milwaukee Avenue, has about a dozen fish species. The bottom-feeding common carp is the only nonnative species among them and it is widespread throughout the lake. Call (847) 968-3499 for more information.
