Marion airport terminal, behind schedule, to open this fall
MARION, Ill. (AP) - A new terminal at the Williamson County Regional Airport - a project stalled this summer - will be complete by next month but not occupied.
Doug Kimmel is manager of the Marion airport. He tells the (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan (http://bit.ly/2c9Xnu0 ) he'd hoped to have the current terminal removed by Veterans Day for a grand opening.
Kimmel says the state budget debacle was "an unwarranted interruption" that cost several weeks of construction time. A temporary budget lawmakers adopted in June allowed construction to continue but it took several weeks to gear up again.
The $14 million, 23,000-square-foot project has been months behind schedule for more than a year because of rainy weather.
