Girls volleyball: Kaneland upsets Glenbard West to win tournament

The Kaneland girls volleyball team pulled of quite the upset Saturday, defeating last year's Class 4A state runner-up Glenbard West to win the Wheaton North tournament.

After going 2-1 in pool play on Friday, defeating Romeoville and Yorkville and falling to Naperville North, the Knights came back on Saturday and downed Wheaton North before beating Glenbard West 25-17, 25-22 in the title match.

Katie Jablonski led Kaneland with 35 kills for the day. Jessie Weber had 22 kills, Hannah Nauert had 84 assists and Jessica Nguyen contributed 21 digs. Jablonski and Nguyen made the all-tournament team.

At Benet: Despite going just 2-3 overall, West Aurora placed fourth at the Benet tournament on Saturday. The Blackhawks defeated Hinsdale Central and Oak Park-River Forest while falling to Benet and twice to York. All-tournament selection Gillian Jones led West Aurora (2-4) with 26 kills and 33 digs for the tournament. West Aurora libero Ali Greenwood was also selected to the all-tournament team.

At Metea Valley/Oswego East: Batavia went 2-3 for the tournament, winning the Copper Division by beating Burlington Central. In other matches, the Bulldogs (3-3) lost to Glenbard East, Whitney Young and Trinity before beating the Whitney Young JV and BC. For the tournament, Aasha Dave' led Batavia with 14 kills, 10 aces and 8 blocks while Maddy Boyer had 31 kills, Sam Juarez 46 digs and 9 aces and Jenna Garrett 89 assists and 23 digs. Dave' was named to the all-tournament team.
