Chicago students to get free admission to city's top museums

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Public Schools students will get to visit many of the city's top museums and attractions for free in the lead-up to the first day of school.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Friday that students who show a CPS ID or a recent report card will get free admission next week for themselves and at least one adult. Among the attractions are the Art Institute of Chicago, Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum and the Lincoln Park Zoo.
CPS' new academic year begins Sept. 6.
Gary Johnson is president of the Chicago History Museum and Museums in the Park, a coalition of museums that's sponsoring the free week. He says it's "a wonderful opportunity for students to get excited about learning before they return to school this fall."
