Girls volleyball: Winning start for Schaumburg, Pancratz
Jeanette Pancratz began her 28th season as the Schaumburg girls volleyball and 36th overall by watching her Saxons take a 25-21, 20-25, 25-20 victory over visiting South Elgin on Thursday.
Mallory Gerber (15 kills), Morgan Sterrett (9) and Julia Spitelli (5) led the attack for the offense as Pancratz won her 810th career match.
Micaela Encarnacion served 5 aces and Jordyn Harberts collected 34 assists for the winners. Spitelli also had 5 blocks while Tamaia Mallett added 3.
Barrington d. Mundelein: The host Fillies (1-1) won 25-16, 23-25, 25-16 as Gabrielle Morris (4 aces) put down 18 kills to lead the Fillies attack which received 18 assists from Ana Zawisza.
Andi Capel and Cecelia Stack each added 8 kills while Erin Crowther had 15 digs.
Rolling Meadows d. Maine South: The visiting Mustangs posted a 25-15 17-25 25-20 as Maddie Sellergren was 19-20 serving with 5 aces while also putting down 15 kills from 41 attempts.
Kyra Amundson added 7 kills and Madeline Rebsamen 4 for the Mustangs (1-0).
Maine West defeated Von Steuben: Reilly Olson (8 kills), Ally Block (17 assists) and Amanda Grzebien (7 digs) led the host Warriors (2-0) in a 25-10, 25-11 nonconference triumph.
Buffalo Grove d. Grayslake Central: Marianna Galati (5 kills), Maggie Streckert (5 kills) and Sasha Rozhko (4) led the attack in host BG's 25-15, 25-19 nonconference win.
Nadia Tarsova served 2 aces while Streckert and Hannah Schuler each collected 7 assists. Kiarra Akiyoshi led the BG back row with 12 digs.
Conant d. Lake Park: Host Conant won its season opener 21-25, 25-19, 25-23 with a balanced attack led by Ally Peacock (6 kills), Jorie Wachal (5) and Ayla Kljako (5). Kristina Loznjakovic had 3 kills, 4 aces, 27 assists and 11 digs.
