Library Card Sign-up Month brings awareness to value of library

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, and the Indian Trails Public Library District will celebrate with a variety of programs and activities to increase awareness about why a library card is the most valuable card in your wallet (or on your phone).

Long thought of as one of our nation's greatest assets, a public library is the rare organization where nationality, gender and ethnicity don't matter. Libraries seek to provide equal access to everyone with the desire to learn.

At Indian Trails Library, your card allows you to check out print and digital material, place a hold on material and access library resources offsite. Getting a card is often a rite of passage for many children and those who are new to an area.

"We want every child and adult in our community to know the library is here to serve them," says Jenny Reid, community engagement librarian. "We want them to explore all the resources we have to offer, from programs to internet access."

Explore ways to use your library card by watching this video created by Indian Trails Library staff: https://youtu.be/gjWZI66W2aE. If you don't have your card, discover how to get yours at http://itpld.org/useyourlibrary/becomeamember.html.
