Blackhawks' Keith to skip World Cup of Hockey

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith has decided not to play for Canada in the World Cup of Hockey next month in Toronto.

Keith missed 10 games after undergoing surgery last October for a meniscal tear in his right knee.

"We believe it is in his best interests to focus on getting stronger and not risk further injury," said Blackhawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry.

St. Louis' Jay Bouwmeester will replace Keith on Team Canada. The World Cup begins on Sept. 17.

Keith finished with 9 goals and 34 assists in 67 games last season for the Hawks.

• Blackhawks assistant coach Kevin Dineen has emerged as a finalist for Colorado's head-coaching vacancy, according to The Denver Post. Dineen, 52, has been a Hawks assistant for the past two seasons. He also coached the Florida Panthers for two full seasons (2011-13) before being fired 16 games into the 2013-14 campaign.
