Read to Build Helps Habitat for Humanity
What a finish! Thanks to this community of readers, the Friends of the Glen Ellyn Public Library and the Glen Ellyn Library Foundation will each donate $1000 to DuPage Habitat for Humanity to help purchase new appliances for a family in need.
This is the fourth year the library has asked the community to read to help a local cause. "Tying summer reading to a philanthropic cause has been a real motivator in getting the community, especially the adults, to participate in summer reading," said Amy Franco, Adult Programming Librarian.
The youth of Glen Ellyn read an astounding 82,512 hours during Read to Build, 12,511 hours over their 70,000-hour goal. Adults finished the summer with 4,685 books read, 185 books past their 4,500-book goal.
