Flag football proves a natural fit for Special Olympians
Flag football is a recent arrival on the scene for Special Olympics Illinois, but it has already zoomed near the top in popularity. The enthusiasm for the sport was evident during a tournament yesterday at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. Approximately 150 athletes and coaches took part in the first flag football competition held in northern Illinois through Special Olympics Illinois. Full story.
Wild goose recovering after attack in Batavia
A goose is recovering at a wildlife hospital after it was abused by a group of kids Friday on Batavia High School property, Fox Valley Wildlife Center representatives say. Robert Schuman, assistant director of animal care at the wildlife center in Elburn, said an intern reported witnessing the goose being kicked and attacked during the Bulldog Boosters Corn Boil fundraiser. She rescued the goose, and it has since been transferred to Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Full story.

As far as individual achievements go, winning 10 games doesn't seem like a milestone worthy of mention. In White Sox starter Jose Quintana's case, it sparked quite a celebration. "This is really special for me," Quintana said after a 4-2 victory yesterday over Oakland at U.S. Cellular Field. "When the year started, that's my first goal.
