No roads named after this Walkup
A recent letter to the editor about Mike Walkup focused on his family legacy in the county. Indeed, a major road was named for Mike's great-great ancestor whose contributions were correctly honored. However, Mike Walkup is nothing like his ancestors.
Mike claims that he is not a career politician but that's untrue. He has run for and been elected to office for over 25 years. Sometimes he ran as a Democrat, sometimes as a Republican. Once he even lost a race to a write-in candidate when Mike was the only person on the ballot. Mike Walkup is infamously known for spearheading an effort to raise property taxes and create a new level of government to regulate water usage. Fortunately, the voters overwhelmingly rejected Walkup's foolish idea to raise property taxes and increase the size of government.
Walkup is not his great-great grandfather. Not even close. His accomplishments are few, and there is no doubt that there would be no roads named for this particular Walkup.
