Amy Schumer cancels Naperville visit

Amy Schumer's Saturday appearance in Naperville has been canceled.

A representative for her book publisher, Simon & Schuster, said the comedian was sick and had canceled both the Naperville appearance as well as one in New York Friday.

Schumer was scheduled to sign copies of her new book, "The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo," at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in Pfeiffer Hall on the campus of North Central College in Naperville.

The program was sponsored by Anderson's Bookshop of Naperville.

The cancellation came amid speculation about the future of Schumer's Comedy Central series, "Inside Amy Schumer."

She said on Thursday she wouldn't be working on the show for "the foreseeable future."

The comedian wrote Thursday on Twitter that "for the next year at least," she'll be touring and focusing on writing.

She says a fifth season of the show is planned, but Comedy Central is giving her time "to work on other projects."

Schumer's comments follow a tweet Wednesday in which she said, "We aren't making the show anymore."

She also made headlines this week over writer Kurt Metzger's Facebook posts about victims of sexual assault.

He was identified as a writer on her show.

Schumer said on Twitter that she was "saddened and disappointed" by Metzger, whom she called a friend.

"Kurt does not work for me," she tweeted. "He is not a writer on my show."

The comedian brings her comedy tour to the area for two appearances this fall.

Schumer will appear at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont on Friday, Nov. 25, and at Chicago's UIC Pavilion the next night.
