'The Birds,' 'A Christmas Story' part of Citadel's 2016-17 season

Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest has announced its 2016-17 season, a five-play lineup that kicks off next month with a stage adaptation of "The Birds."

Season subscriptions are now on sale. The lineup features:

• "The Birds," Sept. 30 to Oct. 30: Conor McPherson's stage adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's story that inspired Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1963 horror film.

• "A Christmas Story: The Musical," Nov. 18 to Dec. 18: The hit 2012 Broadway musical adaptation of the beloved 1983 film about a quirky Ohio family in the 1940s.

• "Elemeno Pea," Feb. 3 to March 5: Molly Smith Metzler's 2011 regional comedy exploring class differences between a social worker and billionaire's trophy wife.

• "Upright Grand," March 16 to 26: Laura Schellhardt's drama involving a concert pianist and her father who plays piano in dive bars.

• "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike," April 28 to May 28: Christopher Durang's 2013 Tony Award-winning comedy has lots of fun with characters and conventions drawn from Chekhov's classic Russian plays.
