Motorcyclist dies in crash near Libertyville

A 57-year-old motorcyclist died Friday after being hit by a box truck near Libertyville, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff's Det. Chris Covelli said the victim was northbound on Milwaukee Avenue about 11:18 a.m. and tried to make a left turn onto Casey Road when he was hit by the truck that was traveling south on Milwaukee.

The male motorcyclist was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Covelli said. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The victim's name and hometown are being withheld pending notification of family, Covelli said.

The accident is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff Technical Crash Investigative Team. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, he said.
