Khans to speak at Islamic convention in Rosemont

The Pakistani immigrant parents of an American soldier who died fighting in Iraq are to speak at a convention in Rosemont next month.

Khizr and Ghazala Khan will speak Sept. 3 at the Islamic Society of North Americas annual convention in Rosemont. About 15,000 people are expected to attend the event, which runs from Sept. 2 to 5. The Khans became well-known after Khizr Khan spoke out about GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump during the Democratic National Convention.

The Chicago Tribune reports that organizers of the event said the Khans are expected to address a crowd of about 10,000. The nonprofit group's president, Azhar Azeez, said the Khans' words and courage have inspired thousands of Muslims. The group does not endorse political parties or candidates.
