FBI search for man suspected of robbing 3 suburban banks

A man suspected of robbing a Carpentersville bank at gunpoint Monday is also believed to be responsible for two other suburban bank robberies last month, FBI officials said.

Nobody was injured in the most recent robbery, which occurred about 4:40 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank, 154 S. Western Ave. The suspect entered the bank, showed a handgun and walked out with an undisclosed amount of money, FBI spokesman Garrett Croon said.

FBI officials believe the man robbed a First American Bank at 1789 S. Randall Road, Geneva, on July 29. He is also suspected to be responsible for the July 5 robbery of a Fifth Third Bank, 1800 North Neltnor Blvd., West Chicago.

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-40s with a large build, FBI officials said. He is believed to be more than 6-feet-1-inch tall and approximately 250 pounds.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the suspect's identity and arrest, Croon said. Anyone with information is asked to call (312) 421-6700.
