Women to discuss global health issues at Naperville tea

Two Naperville-area women will host a discussion of worldwide health issues during a program next month near downtown.

Megan Nakra and Meggie Zayas will moderate the session called "High Tea: A Discussion on Global Health Issues" from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at 14 S. Washington St.

The two say they see a need to create a space in the community where difficult topics can be discussed to support survivors and educate supporters.

"Everyone has a story. So many times they feel alone even though they aren't the only ones experiencing these struggles," said Zayas, an educator, survivor of sexual abuse and domestic violence, and founder of Reclaiming Me.

The panel discussion will be led by Nakra, a member of Oxfam International, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and board member of the Yellow Tractor Project.

Panelists' topics will range from power-based violence to eating disorders to women's health.

After the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to ask panelists questions or speak to them one-on-one.

The event is free, but guests must register.
