Lester gives 'Election Dissection' talk in Arlington Heights

Daily Herald columnist Kerry Lester spoke to the Arlington Heights Historical Society Wednesday evening about this summer's political conventions and their effect on suburban races in November.

Lester's "Election Dissection" talk covered the highs and lows of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, as well as the respective challenges Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton face as they vie for the presidency.

Lester said this unique election presents a quandary for many Republicans running for local office, as some have sought to distance themselves from Trump's more controversial statements.

The "Election Dissection" discussion offered a platform for audience members to share their perspectives on presidential candidates and recent party conventions while learning from Kerry Lester's experience covering politics for the Daily Herald. Patrick Kunzer/pkunzer@dailyherald.com
