Brazil's acting president "ready" for jeers at Rio Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Brazil's acting President Michel Temer says he is ready to be jeered during the opening ceremony of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games next week.

In an interview with newspaper Zero Hora, Temer said it is his responsibility to open the Games since his ally-turned enemy President Dilma Rousseff was suspended from office and will not attend the ceremony. Rousseff is awaiting an impeachment trial.

Temer said jokingly that Rousseff and former Brazilian presidents who are not attending will let him to be booed alone.

The role of Brazil's president in the ceremony is to open the games.

A recent poll says Temer's administration is approved by 14 percent of Brazilians.
