Dream Squad superheroes to greet guests at July 29 fundraiser for Special Olympics

Naperville Park District Police will join law enforcement personnel from the Naperville Police Department to serve lunch at Texas Roadhouse from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29 to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.

The benefit lunch will take place at Texas Roadhouse, located at 2856 Patriot Lane in Naperville. Guests will enjoy a "free" lunch served by police officers and may simply leave a donation at the table. One hundred per cent of the donations will go toward Special Olympics Illinois.

As a special attraction this year, the Dream Squad plans to welcome guests in the parking lot, sporting super cars that look like superheroes, with drivers dressed as superheroes.

"We're excited that the Dream Squad will be part of this fundraising event, making it even more fun for kids and everyone who attends," said Park Police Chief Carl Schnibben. The Dream Squad is a group of automotive enthusiasts who founded a nonprofit that brings its superhero automobiles and Helping Heroes to support local charities and visit children in hospitals.

Park Police began fundraising for Special Olympics Illinois earlier this spring by selling tee shirts and by participating in the Cop on a Rooftop event in June. Special Olympics merchandise will be sold during the benefit lunch and also is available for purchase through the Naperville Park District by contacting Chief Schnibben at 630-848-5049.

Special Olympics Illinois is a not-for-profit organization offering year-round training and competition in 19 sports for nearly 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and nearly 21,000 young athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities. According to a press release posted on the organization's website, "Special Olympics transforms lives by empowering people with intellectual disabilities to realize their full potential in sports and in life."
