Panel tasked with finding way to fund Indiana road projects

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A panel tasked with finding a way to pay for road improvements in Indiana has had its first meeting, with members finding out about state and nationwide infrastructure needs.

The Funding Indiana's Roads for a Stronger, Safer Tomorrow task force was created during the last legislative session when lawmakers disagreed about funding transportation projects. The Evansville Courier and Press reports (http://bit.ly/29QxdM7 ) that during its first meeting Thursday the panel assessed how Indiana roads and bridges compare to other states and how they're funded.

Republican state Sen. Luke Kenley of Noblesville says the task force will bring ideas before Indiana lawmakers during the 2017 state legislative session.

Joung Lee of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials told panel members to look at several different way to find revenue.
