Illinois man charged in 2015 Iowa sexual assault of woman

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A convicted sex offender has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman last year in Davenport.

The Quad-City Times reports (http://bit.ly/2aiUnIN ) that 33-year-old Charles Alvin Spicer, of Rock Island, Illinois, was booked into the Scott County Jail on Thursday. He continued to be held Friday on a $25,000 bond for one count of third-degree sexual abuse.

Davenport police say Spicer ambushed and assaulted a woman as she got out of her car in a parking lot.

The woman was taken to an area hospital, where a rape kit was administered and DNA evidence collected. Police say it was later determined to be Spicer's DNA.

Spicer has prior sex assault and abuse convictions in Missouri and Henry County, Iowa, and is listed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.
