Police: Report of man with gun in downtown Wheaton a false alarm

There was a lot of police activity Tuesday outside an apartment complex in downtown Wheaton, but officials say the officers ended up responding to a false alarm.

Lt. Bill Cooley said a caller reported a man with a gun in a garage at the Wheaton 121 Apartments about 1:30 p.m., but it “ended up being nothing.”

About half a dozen officers came to the scene and cleared everyone out of two garages on the property, 121 N. Cross St.

Within 15 minutes, it was determined there was no evidence of anybody in a garage with a gun. Cooley said no arrests were made.
