Man charged in slaying of Chicago town house owner

CHICAGO (AP) - A man who is accused in the shooting death of the owner of a Chicago town house last January has been arrested on a first-degree murder charge and ordered held without bond.

The Chicago Tribune (http://trib.in/2a1hjiO ) reports that 26-year-old James Rogers appeared in a Cook County courtroom court this weekend following his arrest last week - nearly six months after he was identified by the dying man as the gunman.

Prosecutors say that 39-year-old Torrence Dortch learned that tenants were allowing Rogers to stay in the residence on the city's far South and when Dortch ordered him to leave, Rogers allegedly shot him.

Dortch called police and identified Rogers as his attacker before losing consciousness. He was taken to a hospital in nearby Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.
