Two pedestrians hit by truck in Antioch

Two women were injured when they were struck by a pickup truck as they crossed Toft Street in Antioch, officials said.

Police were called to the intersection at 9:43 p.m. Thursday after the driver of a Ford F-250 had turned northbound on Toft from Lake Street and struck the women as they crossed the road on a crosswalk, officials said. The injured women were 68 and 66 years old, officials said.

Both victims were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, and one was in critical condition, Antioch fire officials said.

The driver of the pickup truck was detained by police under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, officials said. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending charges, officials said.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was contacted to assist Antioch Police with the accident investigation, officials said.
