Barricade situation ends peacefully in Antioch

One man charged with domestic battery, assault

An Antioch man police say was armed and barricaded inside a townhouse near Lake Marie Wednesday was arrested without any shots fired, officials said.

Jacobi Marotta, 37, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of enhanced domestic battery and one count of aggravated assault, according to a news release from the Antioch Police Department.

Police were called just before noon to a home on the 700 block of Highview Court.

When they arrived, they spoke to a woman who said Marotta had held a gun to her head, struck her several times with the gun, and threatened to shoot her dog, officials said.

Unable to make contact with Marotta initially, officers secured a perimeter around the home, closed local roads and advised neighbors to stay inside their home, police said.

Marotta then refused to negotiate with officials for about five hours until police spread tear gas into the home, according to the news release. Marotta then surrendered without incident about 5 p.m., according to the release.

Marotta is being held on $500,000 bail at the Lake County jail.

Antioch police Sgt. Geoff Guttschow said a regional police special response team and other law-enforcement agencies assisted them.
